We are celebrating International Women’s Day by highlighting successful women who inspire us daily. We sat down and talked to three successful women who are pioneers in their own fields and they shared with us the best career advice they’ve ever received and the lesson they want all young women to know.
With a successful career as a Beauty Editor for publications such as Vogue Australia and Body + Soul, Sigourney sought out to start her own beauty website with an aim to educate and empower women everywhere on beauty and to celebrate anything that makes women feel beautiful.
We sat down with Sigourney Cantelo, founder and editor of leading beauty website, Beauticate on the best career advice she’s ever received and the lesson she wants all young women to know.
Who are the women in your life that have inspired you and why?
I have some wonderful, strong women in my life – my mum, my step mum, and my mother-in-law are all women I look up to and admire in different ways. I call all three systematically whenever I need to make a decision as they always point out something I haven’t thought of and give me great advice. My friends also inspire and support me consistently.
Best career advice you’ve received.
Probably not the BEST but one that’s memorable: Dress for the job you want not the job you have.
What are the words you live by?
Kind is cool.
What’s a lesson you want all young women to know?
Be courageous. I love what Anais Nin said, “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.”
