Beauty Profile: Anna Bamford
With leading role in Channel 10’s hit TV series ‘Wonderland’, alongside an impressive run of theatre debuts (including one alongside Cate Blanchett later this year), Anna Bamford is undoubtably one of Australia’s most promising actresses on the rise. The ModelCo ambassador and gorgeous beauty icon shares with us her beauty tips, and the products that take her from an everyday, effortless routine right through to glamourous red-carpet ready beauty.
What is your go-to make up look and why?
My go to makeup look is fairly simple. I love liquid eyeliner to shape the eyes, ModelCo Luminosity Shimmer Whip on the cheek and brow bone and then finished off with one of their amazing mascaras.
Three beauty essentials you can’t leave home without and why?
I can’t leave home without putting on my ModelCo Hydrating Day and Night Moisturiser. It’s amazing! Also, I’ll always have in my bag a mascara and lipgloss! Not very glamorous, but it’s quick, it’s easy and gives me just the right shine.
What is your signature hairstyle and why?
I’d say my signature hairstyle is an out blow dry with a middle part. My hair’s normally quite curly so I like to give it a quick once over with the blow drier. It’s simple and suits both day and evening.
Favourite nail colour right now and why…
Right now my favourite nail colour would be a dark plum. Perfect for going into winter and it stands out.
ModelCo Tip: Channel Anna’s favourite hue with ModelCo Nail Polish in Wine & Dine or Grapevine.
Favourite lipstick shade and why…
I love a good red lipstick that has some blue tones in it. It brings out the blue in my eyes.
ModelCo Tip: Anna wears ModelCo Party Proof lipstick in After Hours
Signature scent and why…
My signature scent would be Dior Addict. I love it so much! It’s feminine, flowery and sweet, but also has this sexy spice flavor to it. Whenever I smell it, I melt!
How do you keep your skin looking so great in-between a busy filming schedule?
I think it’s really important to use a quality moisturiser and I also love an oil or serum! I use ModelCo Macadamia Facial Oil – it glides on so smoothly and after wearing a lot of makeup all day my skin needs a big drink so this oil is perfect just before bed.
Can you share any insider tips that you have picked up from makeup artists after all these hours spent sitting in the makeup chair?
To always do your make up in good light! There’s nothing worse than doing your make up under poor light and stepping out only to realise you look like a clown. Another tip would be to choose either eyes or lips as the feature. And remember, when you are using the right products for your skin tone, less is definitely more!
Are there any skin or wellness rituals that you swear by?
Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate! Drink lots of water, use a daytime moisturiser with SPF and a fantastic night cream. Staying hydrated will change your skin completely.
ModelCo Tip: On set of the ModelCo x Anna Bamford shoot, makeup artist Ania Milczarczyk kept skin hydration up with the help of ModelCo’s Replenishing Rose Mist. “Tonnes of this on the day kept the makeup looking minimal and fresh.”
When you’re not working, how do you like to unwind?
Probably just watching a movie with my boyfriend or taking our dog for a walk. My parents live just out of the city so I like to go home there to relax too. It’s so quiet with lots of trees. I can escape the fast pace of Sydney there.
What is your day to day beauty philosophy?
My day to day beauty philosophy would be less is more. Obviously if you’re heading out to a special occasion, then putting the effort in and getting done up is exciting. But I feel keeping it natural is the most beautiful. Looking great doesn’t mean you have to add more make up.
Favourite red carpet beauty look?
This is a tough one. I’d have to go with old Hollywood style – Red lips, liquid eyeliner and a flawless base. It’s timeless and always a standout to me.
What are your tips for feeling comfortable in front of a camera?
Breathing. Breathing and taking the time to actually listen to what the other actor is saying. A great scene is not just waiting for them to finish talking so you can say your line. A great scene is responding to what you’re getting. I try not to worry about what the other 40 people on set are thinking. They’re not watching you to judge you, they’re only watching because it’s their job! I also try and trust the homework I’ve done on a scene so that when it comes to actually doing it, I can throw it away and just be in the moment.
What products are always in your makeup kit?
Who is your beauty icon and why?
Lauren Bacall has always been a beauty icon for me. She has that iconic old Hollywood glamour and a strong, striking confidence.
